Dear Members,

Unfortunately due to the COVID-19 situation and the fact that we have a very diverse population of members that include some of the more vulnerable individuals to this disease, we will be closing the event hall of the FOP until further notice.  We want to assist in any way we possibly can in preventing this devastating virus from reaching anyone, especially our valued members.

We will not be allowing the EVENT facilities area to be utilized, rented, or used in any way until further notice.

**THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE THE RANGE**  We do ask that you follow the CDC’s guidelines on “social distancing” and other precautionary measures.  We will continue to allow members access to the restroom area of the lodge so there will be an area for proper handwashing if desired.

The following events will be modified:

♦ Carry Concealed Handgun class – CANCELLED – We will open a new date once we have further information from the Governor’s Office and the CDC
♦ The June 2nd Associate Meeting – CANCELLED
♦ ALL Thursday lunches will be canceled until we receive further information from the Governor’s Office and the CDC

For those wishing to become a member, but unable to because of the current situation, please email:  secretary@ncfop10.com

As always, we appreciate our members. We also appreciate your patience as we maneuver through this unprecedented event together.

Officer Sheldon Memorial Scholarship

On May 4, 2019, a family lost a beloved son, brother, fiancé – and Mooresville lost one of its finest and bravest.

To mark one year since K9 Officer Jordan Sheldon was killed in the line of duty, a small group of area residents is urging the community to honor the fallen officer by supporting an effort his family says would have meant the world to him.

The goal: to raise at least $20,000 by Monday, May 4, to finish funding Mitchell Community College’s endowment scholarship in Jordan’s name.

Once the Officer Jordan H. Sheldon Memorial Scholarship is fully funded, at a minimum of $50,000, the interest earned on the principal investment will provide at least two scholarships a year – forever – to cadets attending Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET).

Circa 1993-94, brought the initial scholarship initiative to NC FOP Lodge 10. From its simple beginning, it has grown and developed into a highly successful program.

The first fund raising campaign in support of the program was a golf tournament that was held at the Lakewood Golf Club in Statesville. The event was held in honor, and in the memory of Statesville PD’s first K-9 officer, Nelson Hollar, who had passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.

Because of its growing success, in 2001-02, a committee was formed to refine and administer the program, as we see it today. New criteria was established to give the opportunity for a wider recipient base. Virtually all members of the lodge and their families are given priority. In addition, all seniors at our local high schools are encouraged to participate in the selection process.
