Thursday, May 9, 2019, is a day that will be remembered by all the members of our lodge. It was a day that brought a new meaning of honoring those members of law enforcement in Iredell County that gave the ultimate sacrifice.
The day was beautiful, the sun was shining, a quiet breeze flowed across the memorial garden as we gathered for a solemn ceremony to honor our fallen brothers.
In past years we remembered nine fallen brothers, but this year, we added yet another name to our granite memorial wall. For it was only five days prior to our memorial that Officer Jordan Harris Sheldon, of the Mooresville Police Department was killed while conducting a routine traffic stop. Our hearts were heavy, how could this be? We don’t have the answer as to how or why. We are only left with our memories of these ten brothers, who were tragically taken from us.
The service was held with dignity and reverence with prayers, the singing of the National Anthem, playing of taps, and playing of Amazing Grace by the bagpipers who are members of the Mooresville Fire and Rescue Department. Also included were brief remarks from some dignitaries who were in attendance.
We were honored to have members of the families of four of our fallen heroes in attendance. Our efforts to have family members attend this service is apparently working.
